NAHB Green Building Legislation Offers Incentives to Lenders

I know that we have a lot of 'Green' Realtors who post here. I have enjoyed their perspective on the topic.

Here is an article about some proposed legislation to encourage more 'Green' through lender incentives.

--------------------

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) urged Congress this week to move forward on legislation to improve energy efficiency and sustainability in housing without driving costs above manageable levels.

Jerry Howard, NAHB executive vice president and CEO testified before a House Financial Services Committee hearing on H.R. 6078, the Green Resources for Energy Efficient Neighborhood Act (or the GREEN Act) of 2008.

NAHB has been involved in voluntary green building since the early 1990s. Currently, the association is working with the International Code Council to complete a rigorous standards-developing process that will produce the first standard approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for green residential construction and remodeling - the National Green Building Standard.

-------------------

Not much different than a tax rebate for buying an energy efficient heat pump, I guess.

I would really like to hear other thoughts.

Should this happen?
Is it a good thing?

Is there a 'Green' Group here that I should have posted this to?

Tom - I'm actually trying to dig some more stuff on the 'Green' side from a lending aspect.  I did get some info from a Realtor on here.  Shoot me an email tomorrow and I'll forward what I have.  I've only done a little bit of legwork so far, but I think the info I do have ... you'll find useful.

Tom... this is some interesting stuff. I am actually positing about "green" when it comes to mortgages, sometime this week.  Thanks for sharing this...

Tom, there is several green groups here. I can't remember there exact names but if you go to the search bar and put in green some of their posts will come up and you can see the groups they added them to.

I appreciate the piece.  Here in AZ there is a lot of focus on all things moving "green."  It is nice to see that there is a move to encourage environmentalism through lender incentives.  Lets all hope the stimulus works.

by the way, Do you have an outside blog that I can add to my Blogroll ?

Thanks and look forward to reading your thoughts on the world of real estate.
